80 Ekiti Community Leaders Unite Against Vote-Buying Ahead of Governorship Poll

A major grassroots coalition against vote-buying and electoral violence is emerging in Ekiti West as over 80 traditional and community leaders across 18 communities have pledged to mobilise residents for peaceful participation in the June 20, 2026 Governorship Election.

The commitment followed a series of community engagements led by the Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) in partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), aimed at deepening voter education and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.

The mobilisation campaign, which lasted 12 days, covered communities including Aramoko, Erinjinyan, Erio, Ipole and Ikogosi, reaching more than 1,600 residents through market sensitisation, street campaigns, stakeholder dialogues and radio advocacy.

At the heart of the intervention was a strategic engagement convened by the Regent of Aramoko Kingdom, bringing together high chiefs, quarter chiefs and women leaders to deliberate on practical ways to increase voter turnout and discourage electoral malpractice within their communities.

Participants reportedly agreed to cascade voter education messages to residents and encourage peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.

The initiative also featured a large-scale market outreach in Aramoko where over 600 traders, artisans and transport workers received voter education materials and participated in interactive sessions on PVC collection, election-day procedures and the importance of protecting the sanctity of the ballot.

Organizers said the campaign reflects the growing role of community institutions and grassroots engagement in promoting credible elections and democratic participation in Ekiti State.
